Alpine™ Weightlifting Bar

Alpine™ Weightlifting Bar

The 20kg Alpine™ weightlifting bar is REP's top-tier Olympic weightlifting barbell. This bar follows International Weightlifting Federation specifications, including a 28mm diameter and knurl markings to help you determine proper hand placement on the barbell. This bar features a hybrid needle-bearing sleeve construction and utilizes both special inner-race bearings and standard needle bearings that provide a smoother and more consistent rotation. Its passive center knurl is smoother to accommodate high-volume training, but it still provides extra stick during back squats. Its medium-depth, volcano-style knurling provides a solid grip during lifts, but not so much that it will tear up your hands during high-volume training. Ribbed sleeves help keep plates stable and secure during explosive Olympic lifts. The Alpine™ bar was made with high-end details, like laser etchings of the barbell name and weight on the inside of the sleeves, as well as metal endcaps featuring unique designs. The 20kg Alpine™ bar is available in hard chrome; fully stainless steel; or a black chrome shaft with hard chrome sleeves.

I didn't understand why barbell quality mattered until I owned a good barbell. The spin is smooth and consistent, and the precision and straightness are immediately noticeable coming from lesser bars. Volcano knurling is well executed — grippy without being aggressive enough to tear you up on higher-rep work. The black chrome finish looks great and has held up. If you're at the point of upgrading from an entry-level bar, this is the jump that's worth making.

I got a "Death Valley" version of this bar (which is Rep's version of the Rogue boneyard) for <$300. Mine is in a chrome finish (I believe the SS version has much more aggressive knurling). Construction is fantastic; the sleeves have very tight tolerances, so it sounds very quiet when dropped. I would say its even quieter and tighter tolerance than the newer 'quieter' iteration of the Rogue barbells. It's got the inner race bearings which the newer Eleiko barbells have. The knurling is moderately grippy without being too aggressive. It spins amazing, especially after I put some silicone lubricant into the sleeves. It has a passive center knurling so you can use this very capably for back squats outside of the standard snatch & clean/jerk. Possibly one of the better deals in WL bars on the market. Probably not as nice as a top of the line Eleiko training bar or Uesaka, but those are like double its price and I don't need that level since I just do WL for fun.

I think rep has started producing really good bars. They make the best end caps in the business. This is a great bar with a good price for doing olympic lifts which is why I bought it.
