Ares™ Functional Trainer

Ares™ Functional Trainer

The Ares™ cable attachment is a fully integrated, functional trainer and lat pulldown/low row attachment that affixes to your existing PR-4000 or PR-5000 power rack. This saves major space, by bringing a ton more versatility and cable exercises inside the rack, while preserving nearly all the original functionality. The Ares™ features dual weight stacks of 260lbs each (with an option to upgrade to 310lbs per stack) that you can use for unilateral exercises. Or connect both stacks together for bilateral movements that demand heavier weight, like lat pull-downs. The patent-pending Ares™ features trolleys that are designed with a smooth plastic liner that’s easy to adjust up and down with one hand. The front pulleys swivel 180 degrees for versatile movements and work outside the rack. Hot-rolled steel plates with a machined finish assure consistent and durable weights that the magnetized pin slides into smoothly. A patent-pending metallic black finished shroud, with a recessed stainless steel REP logo, features laser cut windows to see the weights moving. The 2:1 ratio means 100lbs feels like 50lbs, ideal for functional training. The Ares™ comes with a footplate to brace against during low rows, four micro-adjustment 2.5lbs weights, D handles (not pictured), a knurled chrome lat pull-down bar and low row bar, and a connector banana. Organize your gym even further with our Off-rack or Wing Add-on storage options. If Ares™ is the God of War, this is the attachment to train you for it.

I love my ares 1.0. It is a fantastic, smooth, functional trainer, and lat pull down. The low row is a bit low, but I have found this issue to be overblown by many others and still get a great workout from it. It is also a benefit to have such a low pull point for exercises like RDL's. I also prefer the cable routing on the Aries 1.0 since storing the trolleys at the top is less in the way than storing the trolleys at the bottom like on Ares 2.0 because that can interfere with placement of spotter arms. The main downside is it takes up space inside the rack and makes it difficult to incline bench in a four post. Not an issue with my six post since I incline bench off the front. I bought this after Rep announced the 2.0 and so got a great deal on it. No regrets, would purchase again.

I was part of the initial purchase group. Overall the Ares has been a game changer for me. The value proposition for you are getting is outstanding. Absolutely no issue with build quality after years of use. The low row was a miss, but there is a $150 fix on Etsy.

Sold mine recently to be replaced by a Magnum 5 Stack Jungle Gym. But I had this for years and it is awesome. Ended up using my squat rack for mostly cable movements with this after moving away from powerlifting and loved it. Some issues with one side of the cables twisting up fairly frequently which has hopefully been improved in the newer version but overall a great addition to any home gym.

Cables are very smooth. 5 lb increments with 2.5 lb adder weights. Lat pull down is great, allowing for unilateral pulling. Only con is that it eats up the back of your rack and the low row is way too low rendering it essentially useless without some form of modification. If you can get one for a good price, it is still a great value today.

I picked my 1.0 up after the 2.0 had came out and it has been flat fantastic wish the low row was a little higher but with the cost savings rep offered at the time I would not hesitate to buy again

I was able to pick this up on Facebook marketplace for a substantial discount after the 2.0 came out. It is a great product for the money I spent. They made some adjustments to the 2.0 that are nice but having lived with the 1.0 for some time none of the quirks it has prevent me from getting everything I need from it. If you can live with minor inconveniences it is a great way to save $1000+
