The Body Solid back extension gets the job done. This back extension isn't commercial grade (not that it advertises to be) so I don't feel comfortable doing weight extensions on the machine. I don't like how soft the padding is, or the grippy finish on the vinyl. I wouldn't recommend buying this unit for full price but if you find it used (these tend to come up frequently on marketplaces), its'a decent pick up. Once you have the machine in your gym, you can decide if it's worth the space and pursuing a used commercial grade back extension.

The back extension has always been a favorite of mine, so I was really excited to have this as a part of my gym. Even compared to commercial pieces, this is an awesome piece... except if you have shorter legs. The padding is thick, firm and has stood up well to over 2 years of use with almost no signs of wear or compression. I was nervous about the no leg holder design, but I have found that I actually prefer this, as it just feels more natural and easy to maneuver into position. I was nervous about the vinyl, but that too has surprised me how well it has held up. There's a spot for hooking up bands that has come in handy. It feels well built without being overbuilt. I definitely would recommend it if you're a fan of back extensions.

This back extension is not quite commercial grade, but it is adequate for home use. The padding is thick and comfortable, but for the feet, I'd rather have a pad rather than a metal lip holding me down. I got a great deal on Facebook marketplace and only got rid of it to upgrade to a Body Masters commercial back extension.

My only issue is that its to low to ground to be able to add weight without hugging plates. Build quality and value is there though.

I recently picked this piece up from marketplace. At $50 it was an incredible value I couldn't pass up. The unit feels stable despite its weight, HOWEVER that lack of weight does mean it will slide on smooth surfaces while getting on it if you're not careful. I am 6'2 and I don't worry about the unit tipping over, and its great for back extensions, as well as oblique work which was the main reason I wanted a 45 degree hyper. A great find for marketplace, and probably worth buying new if you prefer this over a GHD for low back work.

Commercial grade back extension. I only got this one because of a GGC gift card prize. Very well built, easy to put together, high quality pad. At 5’4” with a sub 30” inseam, the lowest setting is borderline for me depending which muscle group I’m working so sometimes I put a board on the foot plate. The lip is enough on the footplate to hold my feet in place, but my husband has commented he’d rather have a pad to lock is ankles in.
