CAP Neoprene Dumbbell Weight

The stereotypical beginner dumbbell. My wife uses them primarily but the 8-15lb does come in handy for accessory work.

Regardless of brand, we all know what these dumbbells are. We also know what shelf of the rack they are. They are the newbie shelf, the “I bought a set to workout in my living room” shelf. The “fitness class” shelf. The “I can’t lateral raise real weight” shelf. Or worst, and most common, the “I hurt myself” shelf. They aren’t pretty. They aren’t always durable. The weight isn’t always accurate. But when ya find em at the right price, you scoop em up knowing someday you may need those 3’s, or find the one exercise that requires a 7(ish)lb dumbbell. Or someone will. Or you just wasted $20 but at least you have more toys. They are like a penny, look anywhere and you’ll find some so always be on the lookout. The 12’s are the only pair to ever find a home in between our 5-100 set. The balance sit in the bottom of the rack, silently judging our bad form knowing they will be called into service someday.

I don't have a ton of dumbells in my gym. Just a couple pairs of very light ones for some rehab work, so take this review in that context. These are just about perfect for my use case.

Think every home gym has a pair of these and not sure where they came from... My 2 year old loves them.

I purchased these for my wife, daughter, and mother, ordering pairs of 5 lb, 8 lb, 10 lb, and 12 lb dumbbells through Amazon. Overall, they’re comfortable to use, have a good grip, and the color coding with bold numbering looks sharp and makes them easy to identify. That said, quality control seems inconsistent. One pair arrived with damaged neoprene, and it appeared to have left the factory that way. Additionally, after minimal use, the neon green 8 lb pair has already developed staining on one of the heads. I’m unsure whether it’s from internal discoloration or external contact, but it was disappointing to see so quickly. They feel good in hand and work well for light training, but based on my experience so far, I do have some concerns about their long-term durability.
