My most expected acquisition recently, the American Barbell Il Padrino is a serious deadlift bar that feels purpose-built from the first pull. The extra whip gives you a smooth break off the floor, especially as the weight gets heavy, and the knurling is aggressive enough to lock in your grip without being overly harsh. It’s extremely solid, with a premium feel and plenty of sleeve length for heavy loading. This isn’t a general-use bar—it’s a specialized tool for pulling big weight. If deadlift performance is a priority, the Il Padrino delivers exactly what you want, and the craftsmanship is flawless.

One of the most unique bars I know about. I jumped at the opportunity to buy it when it became available. The knurl is great. The build quality is amazing. Of course, it’s got a ton of whip. The price tag was high, but I didn’t care. It’s a really fun bar.

The best deadlift bar that money can buy, but is it worth it? The Il Padrino fulfills the original purpose of the Kabuki Deadlift bar by making a 27mm, 20 kg deadlift bar that maxes out allowed USPA specs. Made from stainless steel and hard chrome, the build quality on this bar is a step above any other bar. The catch? Almost no competitions actually use this bar or ones like it. If you like whippy bars and love stainless steel as much as I do, this bar makes a lot of sense. If you just want a deadlift bar to train for you next meet, get the Texas and save that cash for something else.

Most people buy deadlift bars bc of the whip. In that context this is the best deadlift bar available. You get the precision manufacturing of American Barbell, aggressive knurling, a stainless steel shaft (rare for deadlift bars), and the furthest distance between plates on the market. This thing is almost too whippy as even at 315lbs you'll be able to feel it. The downside to this bar has to be the cost and availability. It's extremely expensive before even calculating the higher shipping costs due to its length. It's also rarely in stock, so who knows if you'd even be able to buy one if you wanted it!
