Jackson Barbell #5 Bore 1.35" Vintage Weight Plares

Jackson Barbell #5 Bore 1.35" Vintage Weight Plares

An evolution of the early Jackson Standard and #4 sets, this design features a unique 1 21/64” center bore for a precise fit with it’s barbell. Like the Olympic set it replaced, the smaller plates adopted round edges and larger fonts. Jackson continued producing this set until his retirement.

These Jackson Barbell #5 plates have amazing history, which is the main reason I wanted them in my gym. Mine still have the original 1.35-inch bore, so without a matching Jackson bar they are more display piece than usable weight right now. I am fine with that for now, but I may eventually bore them to 2 inches so I can actually lift with them. Vintage plates with this kind of history are just fun to own.

Super cool vintage plates that are common enough to be used without fear of damaging them. Very accurate in weight, especially if the lead pockets have been filled to fine-tune the calibration. They won't fit on modern Olympic barbell sleeves unless the bore has been cut out to 2 inches, which almost any machine shop can do for a nominal charge.

Grabbed a pair of these on FBM. Really cool to own a part of Iron History. Had them bored out so I could use them on my olympic bar. Of note, one was exactly 50 lbs and the other was 52.5 lbs...which I found odd. But they look cool and hang proudly on my wall now.

Absolutely honored to have gotten a pair of these from the great AJ during his historic moving sale. Mine are signed and bored out to 2” by Joe who was last producer of Jackson Plates. Happy to put some (gentle) miles on these bad boys.
