Stone of Steel

Stone of Steel

The world’s first plate-loaded atlas stone! Over the last 5 years, our flagship product, The Stone of Steel, has transformed from a sketch on a coffee shop napkin to a world-class piece of equipment that has graced the world’s most prestigious strength stages, gyms, garages, colleges, military bases & schools around the world. Using the plates you already own, The Stone of Steel can be loaded from 135lbs to 450+lbs. To bring you this high-quality and intricately made piece of equipment as efficiently as possible, we only offer this product through our website when we have our custom formed hemispheres in-house for the 20” Stone of Steel. The SOS allows for the obvious advantages like space-saving & far less mess, but it also allows lifters to incrementally load the for long-term progress, just like a barbell.

The best stone of steel ever made, great for promotors to use for venues where many stones isn't possible and where tacky isn't allowed

Great tool for strongman training when you don't have room for several concrete stones.

I’ve just sold mine but this is great if you don’t want a bunch of stones rolling around the garage or don’t have the space for them. Mikes stuff is top notch and highly worth it. Easy to change weights and doesn’t rust easily

Initially the price seems high, but in reality the price of molding a bunch of atlas stones adds up quickly. The molds, concrete, styrofoam cores, reinforcement fibers, etc. On top of that, you obviously need to have the space to store them. Even taking that into account you are still paying a premium, but it’s worth it if you can afford in my opinion.

I love the Stone of Steel for my garage gym. In a space of 388 square feet, this is a lifesaver because it would be impossible to keep multiple stones in the Iron Chaplain Gym. Instead, with the plate loaded SOS and the MBPC Loading Platform, you have all you need for strongman training. I love the plate loading feature and have not had the issues some mention in getting the hemispheres together and apart. I also find that training on the SOS is harder than normal stones, so come competition day, you will be strong, strong, strong. I do not use tacky towels with mine, just chalk, for an added challenge. It is the GOAT of plate loaded atlas training tools.

It’s hard to beat the quality of MBPC. I have the 20” version, which is larger than most atlas stones I’ll have to lift as a lightweight woman. It’s very challenging and I usually end up having to use a tacky towel. I haven’t had any issues with plates fitting, but that is a common complaint I’ve heard. I don’t have space to keep a bunch of stones at home so this was a high priced solution to enable consistent stone training.

This is was a big innovation in strongman equipment in my opinion. I really like the SOS for home gym owners. Having a compact space, it would be challenging to have a range of stones to use for training. That being said, using it without tacky is a very difficult workout that isn’t exactly like training normal stones with tacky. I don’t recommend using tacky with this as it will begin to pull the paint off. That is not a negative against the product as they are clear about its use intentions. The first time you change weight you are in for a humbling experience to get the 2 hemispheres to line up. Getting them locked in is very difficult, but you will get better at it over time. You will be able to load this thing up with more weight than anyone can lift so it will not be something you outgrow. That being said, if you have the space, I’d recommend getting some stones instead. This thing is just crazy expensive. For good reason, but it just puts it at a price point I can’t recommend unless you couldn’t train stones without it. Also, it does not fit any of my rogue machined plates. The tolerance on the horn is too tight. You’ll need plates with a larger hole. tolerance
