I did exactly as Keith suggested on his review, and I couldn't recommend this enough. This is perfect for anyone that shouldn't start with a 135 lb bar right off the bad. Cost me a total of about $25.
I primed and painted mine for no good reason.

I made a pair of 17β 3.5 lb wooden techniques plates for my wife to use post surgery so she could deadlift at the correct at a lighter weight that she was comfortable with. Go to Loweβs or Home Depot and buy a 17β pine round and drill a 2β hole in the center with hole saw and bam you have a 3.5 lb wooden techniques plate.
