About the Gym

Aegis Barbell Lab – Built in Silence. Proven Under Load. By Alex Loder, BSC MSC PhD Dr.rer.nat. No commercial gym. No training partners. No shortcuts. The Aegis Barbell Lab is a 40m² basement home gym in Austria — built from over a decade of training entirely at home. What started with a yoga mat, a cheap barbell, and 3 square meters turned into a fully equipped powerbuilding lab designed around one principle: Remove excuses. Optimize stimulus. I’ve never trained in a commercial gym. Not once. Everything you see here — from early physique progress to 500+ kg Zercher holds — was built in isolation, with limited space, limited equipment, and full accountability. ⸻ What makes this place different This isn’t just a home gym. It’s a controlled training environment. * Custom-built deadlift platform (low-budget, fully modular) * 600 kg rated rack setup for squats, Zerchers, dips & pull-ups * Dedicated leg press for full-ROM hypertrophy work * 700+ kg in plates (yes, tracked — data scientist) * Barefoot training setup for maximal force transfer * Climate-controlled basement to eliminate humidity & mold Every piece of equipment has a purpose. If it doesn’t contribute to progress — it doesn’t stay. ⸻ From cardio addict to barbell obsessive I started with running. Then cycling. 1.5–2 hours of cardio every other day. Then came a birthday gift: adjustable dumbbells. That’s where things changed. For six years, I trained in ~3 m². No rack. No machines. Just consistency. Today, I built a house around the gym. ⸻ The identity behind the name “Aegis” represents protection, control, and intent — which is exactly how I approach training. The walls reflect that mindset: * Every day’s a training day * The future is ours to decide * Let’s show them a thing or three * I’m really feeling it * Guess who’s back, bitches! (If you know, you know.) ⸻ Why this gym exists Because most people don’t fail due to lack of equipment. They fail due to lack of clarity. This space is built to answer one question: What actually drives progress? ⸻ From Lab to Screen Everything built inside the Aegis Barbell Lab doesn’t stay here. I document my training, experiments, and results on YouTube — breaking down what actually drives muscle growth, strength, and performance. No recycled advice. No surface-level tips. Just real training, real data, and real questions: * What actually counts as “effort” in training? * Why do different techniques produce different results? * And where does optimization end…and overthinking begin? If you’ve ever questioned what you’ve been told about training — you’ll probably feel at home there. ⸻ Location Austria — right next to Arnold’s hometown. ⸻ What’s next Still optimizing. Planned additions: * Glute-ham raise * Hip thrust setup * Custom jammer arm solution * Wall-mounted cable station * Final wall artwork to complete the Lab ⸻ 👉 If you’re looking for fancy lighting and aesthetics — this isn’t it. 👉 If you’re looking for proof that minimal beginnings can scale to elite output — welcome. 👉Find my full gym story on: https://turnphysique.wordpress.com/portfolio/my-gym/
