Heavyweight Kettlestrap

Heavyweight Kettlestrap

Designed and manufactured in the USA, Spud Inc.’s Heavyweight Kettlestrap gives athletes a convenient new way to ramp up their kettlebell swings—with no actual kettlebells required. By loading the durable 16" nylon strap with standard Olympic plates, you can create an effective kettlebell alternative that enables customized, incremental weight changes from 5LB up to 175LB. The Heavyweight Kettlestrap fits in any gym bag and features a 6" long steel-core handle with a textured rubber coating for a firm grip. To add your desired weight, just slide the handle through the center of each plate (25LB plates work best) and let the resulting stack serve as your makeshift kettlebell. From cost-efficiency to portability to advanced training options, the Heavyweight Kettlestrap is a simple accessory that pays big dividends.

Of all the useful things Spud makes, this may well be the best. Kettlebell swings are an excellent hinge exercise for athleticism, warming up, or even going heavy. However buying kettlebells heavy enough to push yourself on swings would cost a fortune. This deviously simple strap simply pulls itself through Olympic plate holes and stacks them inside on top of the ring. The handle is much bigger than a normal kettlebell handle so you can do them two-handed and keep most of both hands on it. This lets you focus less on the finesse of one-handed swings and just focus on snappin' those glutes. It actually feels kind of like a training drill that Pavel Tsatsouline used where you swing a kettlebell by hanging on to a towel pulled through the handle. If you don't hinge correctly and explode upward with the right timing, it will shake and wobble. A perfect swing is held motionless in air at the top. Although there's a cheaper kettlestrap, you should only really consider the Heavyweight Kettlestrap unless you're a very short person and it would touch the ground while swinging. The heavyweight holds seven 25 pound plates; just enough to leave room for your hands on the handle. After 6 years and thousands of swings the material around the ring is fuzzing up and wearing. It doesn't seem unsafe as-is, but all the same I wrapped a couple layers of black duct tape around the bottom part (both sides, above the ring) just to prevent the rubbing from making it worse.

Spud straps are built to last, and a company I trust to make great straps, I use them all the time in the gym. I often use this strap vs regular kettlebells.
