Stubby Axle Barbell - Rackable Shorty Bar

Stubby Axle Barbell - Rackable Shorty Bar

Strongman (and strong woman) competitors have been using "Axle" bars for years. Axle bars have thick grips- 2" vs the 1 1/8" shaft of a normal barbell. These axle bars make lifting harder as most people cannot close their hand fully around the bar. Working an axle bar into your routine will result in stronger grip, thicker forearms, and a stronger back. Axle bars are most well-known for deadlift movements and for shoulder-to-overhead presses, but are also great to work in to your routine for bench press, farmer's holds, zercher squats, bicep curls, and more. However, axle bars are not the greatest choice for a primary barbell since their collars do not rotate, making them a poor choice for Olympic weightlifting or similar lifts.

I got this for $60 and really can't complain about anything for that price. It has actual reference markings on it, and is a regular ol' short axle bar. Rackable, and you could probably load it to 495 at least with standard iron 45s. Even at the full $120ish price tag I don't know that I'd expect much else.

Got this for $62 which is stupid cheap, not sure how they make their money back, even shipping this from overseas. The powder coat is evenly applied and I really enjoy the marks on the bar - my other axle bars do not have any markings and so I had to add markings on them with chalk. Not a huge deal, but a nice touch. Another thing this bar has that I havenโ€™t seen on other axle bars is end caps. And theyโ€™re pretty end caps. Which is weird because axles just get beat to hell and arenโ€™t meant to be pretty. But itโ€™s a nice thing to see. Fringe put some thought into this, itโ€™s not just a pipe with powder on it. My usual axle is from BWTG and has significant grip, which is nice for pulling but it rips the crap out of your shins. Since this bar has smooth powder coat, itโ€™s harder to grip, which is fine, and it doesnโ€™t rip up your shins. Iโ€™m happy with it, especially because the price was insanely cheap. Itโ€™s worth it too at twice the price.

Got this bar for around $63 during their garage sale. Couldnโ€™t afford not to buy it. Seriously a really well built axel bar and an extremely low price point. I would probably go with their longer axel unless you have calibrated plates or thinner plates. Was really impressed by this when it came in though!

Got mine for 20 bucks off marketplace so not sure exactly on value. I love the painted rings and short length. Nice that it has an end cap with the weight on it too.

Great budget short axle. Easy to maneuver around a garage gym. Has gold markings on the center and standard rings. It can fit about 5 standard sized iron plates so it gets the job done. The gold markings do wear off if you do belt cleans.

For the money, this thing is hard to beat. Nothing fancy about it whatsoever, but it gets the job done. If you only have deep dish plates or bumpers you will not be able to fit many plates on the short sleeves but if you have weight it out plates or calibrated plates like I do, youโ€™ll have no problem loading this with 6+ plates per side.
