Open Trap Bar / Hex Bar

Really solid open trap bar. The knurling is just aggressive enough but not crazy and certainly not passive. The rubber feet for the jack are really useful additions, but aren't the highest quality materials. The bar itself is just around 45# so you don't have to do any unusual math... the biggest knock is the loading sleeves aren't very long, so if you want to go heavy you'll be limited by what type of plates you have. I've loaded 415# with an assortment of bumpers, but can't imagine going higher without thinner plates. Overall, really good value for money as I got this for less than $200 on sale.

Got this as an upgrade from a basic metal trap bar. Done of the welds are a bit messy, but it's really solid. I like that the weight horns rotate, makes it really easy to roll around. One minor gripe is that the opening is quite small and as a larger dude sometimes I bounce off the sides when lunging or similar.

My biggest complaints are also its benefits. It’s reasonably light and can be put up out of the way. Maybe because the opening base is relatively short, the trap bar will lean to one side when you first put weight on it. Which is such a minor inconvenience. You only have to tip it back a few inches to get it parallel to the floor to load the next plate. My other concern is that it’s just heavy enough that I’ve banged my shins on it trying to get it out when I’ve tuck it behind my leg extension machine. Haven’t overloaded it by any means, but it held its own against 29 reps at 290lbs for the fallen crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald 🚢

It’s probably best Budget Short sleeve open trap bar on the market. I have had a few versions and models over the years including a version with longer sleeves, but currently in 2026 I believe only the 9in sleeve version is available. It’s a Great option for the whole family and my wife and kids prefer this one over the more aggressive knurling versions available

Got it on sale and I wanted it for the for the small footprint instead of something like the Rep version where’d I have issues storing it. It’s not the best built as this one had issues like a super gritty spinning sleeve but it doesn’t impact its use case and I use it just fine. For what it is, I just use it as a supplemental lift when mixing it up on my juggernaut ai app and it does well in that. A nice beater open trap bar that does the job.

Bought this second-hand for about 1/2 the new price, so keep that in mind. Compact and does the job, but very passive knurling. My teenager likes using it, and they do a lot of trap bar work with school sports. The bottom handles are nice for storing it upright and saving space, but not really to hold the bar while loading, like I thought they might be. Not sure if I would pay full price for it, but if you can pick one up at a discount, I think it's a worthy addition to the home gym. 3 starts on value, as I think at full price for a few bucks more you could pick up something more robust.

I bought this specifically because it's smaller than the other trap bar options for use in my small bedroom gym. The knurling is very passive, and it can be a little cramped for a big guy. I used it to train a 400lb frame carry, running around the yard with it and it held up fine. The spinning sleeves are mostly useless, but you can roll it around that way.

I have only had it for a week, so I’ll update as time goes on. But so far it’s great, it’s my 1st open trap bar so I don’t have much to compare it against. I picked it up in person and the team at the warehouse unboxed it for me and save me the hassle.

Perspective is everything and it’s no different with BOS open trap bar. Keep in mind I snagged mine as an open box scratch and dent price but it is okay if space is tight. This is not top level but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t get the job done well enough. The length is its greatest strength. It’s more compact so storing isn’t as bad but that comes at the cost of load capacity. My biggest gripe is more on the support or diamond design of the frame. I’d prefer if the supports went straight down vs inward in the diamond shape. It just constricts the opening that much more. Overall it works fine and if you can get it at a steal or have limited space… it’ll be just fine for getting strong unless you think you are Brian Shaw.
