Daily drivers despite collectability. Yes ... I could save a ton of space with a pair of REP x PÉPINs. So the fact I devote this much of my limited gym footprint to these dumbbells probably says something about how I feel about York Roundheads. But on the flip side ... I do not have the money or space to buy a pair of 9s or 80s - 100s to complete the set.

I love everything about blobs except the hefty price tag. First "discovered" them while watching Brian Shaw's "Super Grip Gauntlet" video (from September 10, 2018) after binge watching "The Strongest Man in History" in early 2021. Bought a half 85 off eBay and quickly discovered I "needed" a half 80 to work up to it. Since then I have lifted my York FATMAN and half 125 Legacy.

At some point I needed to make the tough decision between York Roundheads and York Buns. Most of the Buns didn't fit well in my racks ... so I sold them. But I kept a pair of Globe 50s and 55s. They have a great old school feel. Weight is NOT accurate in my experience but the casting flaws allowed me to lift my 50 by the Globe, so I don't mind them so much ... hahaha

Full disclosure - I bought these for the historic/collectable aspect - not so much for training. Very well made. Just not incredibly practical even though they are "adjustable". There are w-a-y cheaper/better options if you're just looking to get strong. Dumbbells like this are mainly for the love of the game.

My 5lb and 10lb pairs were hugely helpful when recovering from a rotator cuff tear. Very ergonomic yet solid feel. Weights were spot on. Pretty easy to justify having these in my gym even though I have York Roundheads that are the same weight.

Bought the 60lb version years ago. At the time ... it was the heaviest option without jumping to a crazy price point. Not comfortable at all but it works. Customized it because it reminds me of road marches in the Army and helps me get back into that disciplined mindset.

Contacted Jedd Johnson who put me in touch directly with Steve Slater. At that time (December 2023) ... this seemed like a new mold (because of the raised letters - prior versions did not have this). And there was no Economy versus Premium option ... it was just one option. But for a little extra, Steve polished the globes and added some clear coat to provide exactly what I wanted. Only minor ding is at 178.6lb this bell is even more challenging than a "true" 172.

My SSE 160 came in right around 160 (slightly heavy by about a pound). On mine, the handle has a nice raw cast texture that takes chalk well. Lettering is clean and clear which gives it a sharp professional look.
