I picked up the Signature Fitness Ski Trainer SK2 and honestly… it’s basically a Concept2 SkiErg clone. Side by side, it feels almost identical in terms of pull, resistance, and overall movement pattern. It’s quickly becoming my go-to warmup machine before lifting. The only real downside is the monitor. It gets the job done, but it’s definitely not on Concept2’s level with the PM5. For about a fifth of the price, it comes with both the floor stand and wall mount. It kind of becomes a no-brainer purchase. If you want SkiErg vibes without dropping full Concept2 money, this is a very solid option.

When the Bowflex SelectTech 552 first dropped, they were legitimately good. Dial-adjustable weight in a compact footprint felt like the future of home gyms. For a lot of us, this was the gateway piece of equipment that made progressive overload possible in a spare room or garage. They absolutely helped launch my home gym journey. I still use mine today. That said, time has not stood still. Adjustable dumbbell tech has made major leaps since then. The 552s now feel bulky, the handle diameter is awkward, and the lack of proper knurling is a miss and they went with a soft rubber grip when they should have gone with metal. There are better, more compact, more durable options on the market now. But credit where it’s due: these were pioneers. For many home gym lifters, this was the spark.

Somewhere in America right now, there’s an Amazon/unbranded curl bar leaning in a corner collecting dust next to a treadmill that became a laundry rack. And somehow… we all own one. I didn’t even buy mine. Seriously, it just appeared. I bought a power bar and the curl bar showed up like, “I live here now.” It does the job and is really cheap.

The Original Texas Power Bar 28.5mm was my first real barbell after years of lifting on those old hex bolt specials and the difference was immediate. The build quality, the rigidity, and the way it feels under heavy load make it clear this bar was built for serious work. When it is time to max out or move real weight, it gives you confidence under the bar. The knurling is sharp in the best way. It bites, it locks your hands in place, and it does not leave you second guessing your grip on heavy pulls or presses. However, I do have to chalk up for high rep work. If you are upgrading from entry level equipment and want a bar that matches your effort, this one absolutely delivers.

The 4x6 stall mats from Tractor Supply are basically a rite of passage in the home gym world. Cheap, indestructible, and built like they were meant to survive a stampede... because they were. Throw them down and suddenly your garage feels less like concrete punishment and more like a serious training facility. They’ve earned legendary status for a reason. Deadlifts, power cleans, dropped dumbbells and they just take it. No fluff, no branding hype, just pure utility. Every real home gym has them… and if yours doesn’t yet, it’s only a matter of time.
