Powerblocks were the best adjustable dumbbell out there for quick adjustability and solid build quality before the home gym boom that led to all sorts of new options. I still love these things and use them constantly. For the price, they are fantastic.
Only downside is the shape can make some dumbbell movements, like pullovers, difficult or not really possible. I find these to be few and far in between so I don’t feel like I’d ever bother replacing them. They can have some rattle to them but are you lifting in a library? Crank up the tunes and don’t worry about it.
Adjusting them is super simple and even the smaller adder plates are fast to add/remove. I got these originally because I had Ironmasters and they are a pain to adjust. Started with just the 50lb version and quickly got the upgrade kits to go up to 90lbs and only touch my Ironmasters when I need anything above 90lbs.
The other issue is these definitely weigh less than the stated amount. When going from 90lbs with these to 95lbs with my Ironmasters it’s really more like going from 88lbs to 95lbs. Doesn’t really matter if you’re only using the Powerblocks since it’s all relative.
Are there better options now? Probably, but these are still a great value.
