The rack:
It's a 75mmx75mm (3x3) 26mm (1inch) hole, 4 post rack with dual weight stacks in a very similar layout as the ares 2.0. Pulley routing is closer to the Athena. The guide rods for the stacks are hollow (will be sourcing solid replacements there). It does suffer from twisting cables like others and when it gets too twisted the weight selector rod can rub in the weight stack. (There are ways to mitigate, I tend to check the cables as part of weekly gym cleaning)
The powder coating is generally quite good, though there are 2 spots I've seen where there was a bit of a scuff, likely from shipping.
The smith machine is a typical 55lb bar, no counter weight. It moves smooth enough. The lowest point it gets is about a foot off the floor. We use it exclusively for calf raises and hip thrusts. The rack is just over 90 inches.
Due to it's configuration most non-us-spec attachments fit. It's inside width is 41 inches so all of reps attachments fit (including thier belt squat)
The alibaba experience:
I found this one, which was laid out exactly how I wanted, The company I worked with appeared (and was) legitimate and advertised alibabas assurance program. Took them about 3 weeks to build to my spec (increased weight stacks, different pulleys, etc). I made sure to set up the shipping as a ddp. So door to door which included the last stretch logistics company with liftgate truck and forklift dolly. Ordered it in late October and it arrived in early January. I was able to track it the whole way. The person I worked with was great about answering question (and I asked a lot of questions).
It was a gamble but it paid off. I've been very impressed with how it turned out. Is it as smooth, premium, or well built as a rep or rogue? No. But it beat the heck out of my old major lutie rack.
