Chalk Bowl/Stand - Custom/DIY

This was a fun project that turned out perfect for my gym. I used pipe nipples, connectors, flanges, and an aluminum small animal feed bucket. As well as Rustoleum Automotive Primer, International Harvester Red, and Farm Machinery Black. Finally, plenty of Crü stickers. 😁💪👊

I wish I had gone with a little bit bigger of a bowl but this works well. I think it was less than $10 for the shelf bracket and the stainless bowl.

Built out of a scrap 2x4 and the best 2 gallon bucket in the world.

I’ve had two versions of a DIY chalk bowl and the second is by far the best. Version 1 was a ground tamper with a cheap metal bowl screwed to it. It worked but was very wobbly and looked very DIY. Rating: performance 4, value 4, build quality 3. Overall 3.66 Version 2 is a York Barbell squat stand cleaned up and fitted with a heavy duty stainless steel bowl mounted with a solid pipe fitting and bolts. It’s heavy duty and a cool mix of vintage and modern aesthetic.

Finally found a use for some old York squat stands. Cool peice for a gym with other vintage things.

Mine is just an old air tight dog food bin. The seal keeps the moisture out, which is huge in the Midwest where humidity can turn chalk into clumps pretty quick

I got the ammo can idea from Jona Leo at Liberty Barbell. I built the base out of wood to match the vibe of my gym. This works great and is great for stickers as well.

You don’t ever have to buy a chalk bowl/container. In my time I have used a Tupperware container, a 105mm shell and now this mini storage container. This one might be my favorite. It’s tiny. It’s cute. It makes me feel like one of those overlander dudes that has a million containers for everything. Find something, anything, to put your chalk in. Save your money from getting anything with a fancy logo on it.
