About the Gym
My home gym situation started in 2020 with a simple dumbbell set (5-25lbs) that I actually grabbed from my parents' house. (Sorry Owen.) I also bought a simple dip station from Amazon. I think I always knew I wanted a home gym but needed to get more settled in life before starting. Eventually, my wife and I moved cross-country to PA, bought our own house, and now that I have a toddler at home, I realized I hate spending valuable time driving across town to a commercial gym. I've always preferred lifting alone, anyway. There is something about attempting a PR knowing if you fail, there's no one to save you. Anyways this led us to begin seriously building our home gym ("Lair Conditioning") in January 2026. What else were we to do with a basement space? I mean, come on! My first big boy purchase was the Rogue RM-3 rack, and that opened this new fascination with building a home training facility. (Proudly "certified", by the way) Since then, I've continued to add more and more equipment as needed. Lair Conditioning has become a smaller basement training space focused on making the most of the room available. It is shared by my wife and our 2-year-old toddler. What gives me the most joy is being at-home while practicing this amazing hobby, and knowing my kids will grow up with a dedicated space to get strong. I'm very proud of this space, and know it has so much more to grow into.
